FAQs

WHAT AIRPORT DO I FLY INTO?

Cancun International Airport (CUN)

DO WE NEED TO PURCHASE A RETURN FERRY TICKET?

No, your ticket will be a return ticket, so remember to keep it for when you return to Cancun.

SHOULD I BRING PESOS OR US CASH?

You’ll get many answer to this one, but we always recommend pesos. It is Mexico after all. If you use US dollars, most places will accept it but you will get a terrible exchange rate.

CAN I EXCHANGE MY US, CANADIAN OR EURO DOLLARS FOR PESOS ON THE ISLAND?

Yes. There is an exchange service at the ferry terminal and they have the best rates. There are also may ATM’s on the island.

WHAT TIME IS CHECK IN AND CHECK OUT?

Check-in is 3pm, check-out is 11am. If you arrive early we may be able to hold your bags while the unit is being cleaned.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TOUR THE ISLAND?

There are many options. 1. We are on the Punta Sur bus route, which goes from Centro, down to Punta Sur on the west side and back to Centro on the east side (our side). Hail the bus from any where and let them know where to drop you off. Unfortunately there isn’t really a schedule, but they're supposed to run ever 15-20 mins. Service stops at 9pm. Cost is 20 pesos pp. 2. Hail a taxi whenever you need one. Make sure to ask the price before you accept the ride. The most you should pay is 150 pesos. 3. Rent a golf cart. This is probably the most expensive option, but also the most fun. We recommend Ciro’s, they have the nicest maintained golf carts. Expect to pay around $100US a day per cart. We have ample golf cart parking.

WHERE IS THE CLOSEST PLACE TO SNORKEL?

Garrafón de Castilla is close and has fantastic snorkeling. 150 pesos per person.

HOW DO I GET TO ISLA FROM THE AIRPORT?

We recommend prebooking a shuttle service. We have used and recommend both CARM https://carmtransfers.com/isla-mujeres-transfers/ and Happy Shuttle. https://happyshuttlecancun.com/cancun-shuttle-to-isla-mujeres-ferry You will want the shuttle to take you to Puerto Juárez. Use the code CARMCARES for $5 off. Both companies also offer to add on the ferry tickets to your order, which makes things easier.

HOW DO I GET FROM THE ISLA FERRY TO VILLA CAZADORA?

You have a number of options: The easiest is to arrange with our concierge for a private, pre-arranged taxi pick up. The cost is $200 pesos. Alternatively, you can walk to the taxi stand to the left as you exit the ferry and wait in line. Tell the driver the house is 4 houses south of the Shell House. It should cost $150 pesos. There is also a bus stop to the right as you exit the ferry. Make sure to take the Punta Sur bus and tell the driver you want to get off at the grass roof house. We are across the street. The cost is $20 pesos pp.

CAN I USE CREDIT CARDS ON ISLA?

Some places accept credit cards, many smaller, locally owned places do not. Make sure to check the exchange rate though. You will pay for that service.

HOW WILL I ACCESS MY SUITE?

Our caretaker, Richie, will meet you there. You need to let us know your flight details and what ferry you get on.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO FIND OUT WHAT THE ISLAND OFFERS?

We recommend downloading and paying for the MapChicks App. The cost is $14.99US for a years subscription. The interactive map can be used without wifi or data, and you can share the app with up to 3 others. Worth every penny! We even still use it.

WHERE IS THE CLOSEST BEACH ACCESS?

The closest free beach for swimming is directly behind us beside La Joya Hotel. Head up the dirt road to the south of us and just keep walking west. When you get to La Joya Hotel, go down the stairs and follow the path, stay to the right when it splits. Wear good walking/water shoes! Find any spot and swim. Additionally, if you want a close beach club, check out Kin Ha. Playa Norte is probably you best option for a full day of relaxing and swimming with the best beach. There are a lot of beach clubs to choose from. We prefer to take our beach chairs and go to the quieter spot to the right of the pier to Mia Reef. More locals, less tourists. Also great for snorkeling.

WHAT CONCIERGE SERVICES DO YOU OFFER?

We can arrange the following: taxi pick up at Isla ferry terminal, stocked fridge for your arrival, private chef massage acupuncturist boat excursions To ensure availability of any service, it is recommend to book in advance as much as possible.

Our Story

We are Krista and Brian. We’re from Port Moody, BC, Canada, a suburb of Vancouver, BC. It has been a dream of ours to own a tropical vacation home forever, and we finally made that dream come true in 2023. When we first stepped off the ferry onto the island, we knew we had found our forever tropical home. We found this house and knew it would be perfect to share with our grown children and family. After considerable blood, sweat and literally tears, we are happy to open up our home to you, and hope you feel the magic of the island as much as we do.
